Dx: Portpatrick and the Mull of Galloway
After leaving the soggy sandy cow place, I padded into a headwind along the lonely, desolate foggy coast. As I approached Portpatrick the fog turned to heavy rain.
Groups of subdued visitors passed by, as I changed into dry clothing sheltered from the wind by the wall of a holiday home.
Having reached max sogginess and minimum battery levels the Harbour house hotel was a cosy sanctuary.
Stocking up on supplies at the post office Maggie gave me a generous charity donation which made me happy. As did the scaffolding that roofed me changing back into my dripping kayaking gear.
The wind has died, but was forecast to swing to the NW and abruptly rise to 5-7 gusts. The headland, the Mull of Galloway was 20 miles off, with no shelter along the way.
The captain of a solitary fishing boat beckoned me over. Did I know the forecast? Having expressed his disbelief at my destination his parting words were it won't be nice out there. With these words going around in my head I kept going as he headed back to the safety of Portpatrick.
